Adding a voltage to audio outlet

I'm doing a Physics experiment with a MP3 player where I am to add a power source (Around 8V DC / 2000 mAh, you can think of it as adding batteries) to the output of the audio device while it is playing music. Does anyone know if this will damage the device?
