Amplifier Inputs - Interchangeable?

Are the inputs on an amp (CD, Aux, Tuner) specific to those devices or can they be interchanged? e.g. Can you connect an Aux to the Tuner input and vice versa?
I realise that Phono inputs are generally specific.

That's fine, they can be interchanged. They are only really there as they normally correspond to a front panel knob/selector which makes it easy to know where to turn if you plug things into the correct ones.

You're right though, Phono is the only exception as they often have inbuilt pre-amps on the input for using turntables etc.
