Are basic cable channels available on FTA boxes?

I had to cancel our cable beacuse the price went up $37+ per month after the
one-year special deal expired. Now I want to get some kind of FTA box so I
can at least watch USA, TNT, Comedy Central, Sci-Fi, A&E, TechTV, Game Show
in the daytime. Of course the people selling the FTA boxes say 'You can get
any channel you want, just get a downloader service or patcher, it's all
available can be had for free' and such, but I really don't have time to jack
around and fool with all that 'hacker' stuff, just watch TV. Any advice?

Thanks,

Sheri Lee W.

No such thing as a "FTA BOX" available legaly.

And do you mean it(your cable bill)went up TO 37 bucks, or your basic
cable jumped 37 bucks more?
If the latter, what was it before, and why are you upset, knowing that
it would happen?

Please explain in full detail!

Please explain what YOU think is an "FTA BOX".

On my planet(Earth) FTA means "Free To Air".

Actually they lie a bunch.
DISH network is now switching over all of their channels to a new card and
the FTA receivers will no longer be able to get anything thats encrypted no
matter what you do to them. At least not until some magical software fix
comes along.
Right now they have no magical fix and just a lot of hot air.

Well I'm not looking for somehing to get DISH or DirectTV, just something to
watch some 'basic cable' type of channels without cable. And I remember some
guys on the TechTV channel saying TechTV and a lot more 'basic' channels were
in the air free and unscrambled for anyone who wanted to watch them. This was
back when Leo and Patrick were still there, before all those kids took over
and turned it into just a video game and movie show. So I figured there were
more channels but from the way you answered I don't know, maybe I need to ask
my question in a different way.

Thanks anyhoo

I should have elaborated better.
None are available that I know of that carry the scrambled signals that
he wants, that are available only on Cable or one of the paid sat
companies.

Well somebody might should tell eBay that becuase there are 500+ FTA boxes up
for sale any of the time the last 2 weeks at least, you can go look.

Neither, I meant what I said, the price went up $37+ per month, I left it in
at the top above so you can see, 'read again for comprehension Roger' <g>.

>If the latter, what was it before,

It was digital expanded cable with free HBO 'all 14' and Encore 'movie pack',
we got it for 12 months for $22.95 + taxes and fees. A 'welcome new cable
cutsomer' deal because there is a nold 'Dish networks' dish on the back of
the house. But then it went to $59.99 + even more taxes and more 'fees' I
don't want to pay. $44.99 cable + $8.00 HBO + $7.00 equipment, that is $6 per
month for a box and $1 for a remote, pa-leez, that's like make you pay for
ISP and then rent a modem too. I laugh at ppl who would pay that fee over and
over, I just won't. And also came on top of that even more taxes and fees we
didnt pay for at the intro rate, like around $6 or so 'local access fee and
surcharge' for 2 public channels and 3 comunnity college channels and such
nonsense. But even not counting extra taxes and fees cable would go up from
$22.95 to $59.99, that makes the $37+ number as you can see.

>and why are you upset, knowing that
>it would happen?

Why do you assume Im am upset? I am not upset, it's just we can't afford $67+
per month to watch TV, that's why I had cancel the cable when that first big
bill came. But we want to see some shows that don't come on 'local air' so I
asked about if channels on 'basic cable' are available on FTA boxes. Because
I figured if still pretend like I have to pay the cable only 4 more months, I
can have around $104 and then I can buy a FTA box, after that no more $$$ to
watch some TV.

You know what I mean a 'Free To Air Receiver', its just easier to type box,
my eyes have a problem with spelling and grammer when I type and write as you
can porbably see. Like a 'cable box' but for sat channels. And I know for a
fact there are free 'sat channels' out there in the air and not scrambled,
TechTV and NASA for two examples are that way, and if you live by Atlanta TBS
is local air and in Chiacgo you get WGN.

I want to know if there are more without the hacking and other nonsense, I
don't care if and how anyone else does it, it's just I don't want my kids to
think that's OK.

>On my planet(Earth) FTA means "Free To Air".

Now that just sounds snotty, I guess if you want to make fun and argue for
some reason OK go ahead but I will not do it with you.

'buh-bye'

Ah yes, thank you Red Devil, that's what I had to tell Roger, but I used up a
lot more words, I am always told I need to work for 'brevity'.

Are you Roger or are you Kenny, or you can't decide? <g>

Since people gave me answers to questions I didn't ask, I will ask again in a
different way in a while.

Well now Kenny, I should not decide the name you use. Anyway I thought that
was for junior high school where you try differnet names out with people.

But OK, since you use the name Kenny 3 times and Roger only 1 time, you must
want Kenny to come first, so I decide you're a Kenny Rogers wannabee.
Consider ya'lls self alerted. <g>

I guess I should have answered more clearly.
NO
No, there are no free basic cable channels via satellite that you would want
to see.
There are some foreign channels and preachers and infomercials and shopping
channels and thats about it.

And if you live by Atlanta or Chicago you cannot get WTBS or WGN via
satellite for free. You could put up an outside antenna and get their
over-the-air signal if you were in their market.

Whatever you get on your tv with an outside antenna is all there is for
free.

that's right and they're not illegal
