Ariel puts the TV offs

I'm using Samsung led series 5 40 inch whenever I plug the Ariel into the Ariel slot, the TV will set restarts itself as many times the Ariel keeps in the slot but when I change the source to HDMI Nothing happens. I'm desperate for help please

Restart as in REBOOTS? That's definitely not normal, return TV.

Switch to HDMI and nothing happens? This is too vague. Nothing what? In a corner of the TV should show that it has switched ports, now whether you have anything hook up to that HDMI you did not divulged information.

Have you got a spare coaxial cable handy.
Plug one end of the cable into the aerial socket on the tv and leave the other end loose, does it do the same thing.
The reason I ask is that some aerials have a booster attached and can supply voltage (5v) down the cable, this might be shorting out the TV
