So, I opened my brothers ASUS laptop for dust cleaning and found out that it only haves a Samsung 4gb 1Rx16 on a single existing slot, instead of the 12GB the OS and the the manufacter anounces.

Is it really 12GB RAM or is ASUS missleading the costumers and cheating on the OS?

I think so.

I googled "soldered RAM images" and found several links. For example:

http://www.insidemylaptop.com/complete-disassembly-of-asus-x555l-x555u-series/

Very much appears similar to the image you provided.

What OS is on the laptop? Check system specs for 12 GB RAM.

Or you can run third party software such as Speccy to see the detailed specs - including RAM configuration.

Or load up a bunch of different games at once and see if ram useage goes up above 8gb. Asus wouldn't dare sell a product that has faked specs. They're too big of a company to intentionally ruin their reputation for that

It's pretty common in new laptops. Soldier 4 or 8gb then just upgrade it a bit to fit the specs they wish to sell on an individual model. Makes install faster for them later
