Asus f555la black screen, but computer is on

My new Asus f555la-us71 signature edition laptop will no longer turn on after performing an update. The lights are on, it makes noise, and the optical disk drive works, but the screen is black. There's no booting screen. The battery is non-removable, so a hard reset that way is not an option.

Before you try resetting the computer, you should try running it with an external monitor, as to test if your laptops monitor is the only issue.

If you connect the external monitor prior to starting the computer, it should register the device, and if it is only the laptops monitor that is the problem, the new monitor should show all information. If that is the case, then you can either replace the laptops display/monitor, or continue using the external one.

Now if it doesn't let you use an external one, then it may be more than the monitor that has been damaged.
