I recently received a ASUS K50AB laptop from my cousin because he had upgraded to something better. It works great but there is a fan issue that I need to get fixed ASAP.

The problem is the fan is not kicking on when the temps are high. When I boot up the computer I can hear the fan spin up like it should but once it hits the windows starting screen it drops down. There is no option to turn the fan up or down that I can see. The temps are 76C so i know the sensors are working. Speed Fan registers the fan RPM at zero (although im not sure the PC records the RPM). My cousin said he took it to a guy to get it worked on and he blew air into the back exhaust while it was running and it hadn't worked since then. Could the problem be the fan sensor had went out and it needs a new fan? Any help is greatly appreciated as I would like to get this working so I can give it to a family that cannot afford a computer for Christmas.

Sounds like a defective fan. You should able to find the replacement at a site like this one:

http://www.laptoprepairparts.com/html/LRsearchmodelresults.asp?brand=asus&model=k50&txt=K50%20series%20(K50AB,%20K50AD,%20K50AF,%20K50C,%20K50ID,%20K50IE,%20K50IJ,%20K50IN)

Good luck!
