My ASUS X551 laptop battery is not holding a charge. The battery looks like it's charging and it says "plugged in, charging," but it stays at 0%. The adapter that came with this laptop decided to quit on me too. I'm using an old adapter from my Toshiba laptop. If I unplug it from the adapter, it immediately shuts off. I haven't tried taking the battery out as I've read online because it's encased and I'm trying not to screw up this laptop more.

What should I do?

Under warranty? Sounds like bad battery though if not using the original charger the one you are using may not be of proper specs for charging the battery

No longer under warranty. I had problems with the original charger where it had to be at a certain angle in order to actually charge the battery then that just quit on me as well.

From age alone, I'd guess a dead battery, though gettting a factory replacement charger might work (wouldn't bet on it)
