Hello,
My Asus S550C laptop is having trouble getting to POST and booting. The hard drive, I have noticed, will power up and then wind down and remain doing nothing, as will the laptop which will continue to run a black, backlit screen, as well as all fans, lights, and the CD drive, but no hard drive, no BIOS boot.
It powers on, there are lights and fans, I can open the CD drive and it will attempt to load a disk, I can even see my screen backlit.
In fact, I can even press and hold F2 while pressing the power button and reach the BIOS settings and see them displayed on my laptop clearly, so it's definitely not the screen or graphics. I HAVE attempted to clear CMOS through the BIOS settings.
I have tried removing the battery and holding down the power button to do the hard reset thing. No luck. I plugged in my laptop while leaving the battery out and attempted to boot that way. No luck. Power does not seem to be the issue.
There is nothing in the CD drive and nothing in the USB drives that would be affecting startup, as I have removed all of it.
I also attempted reseating the RAM and Hard Drive, but was hesitant to unscrew and open the laptop further to reseat anything else.
I can't tell at this point if this is a software or hardware issue anymore. This is a troublesome laptop that started as a Windows 8 and got worse with each Windows OS update. It's now on Windows 10 and every day it seems to have a new issue. I do intend to get a new laptop, but I'd like to be able to get this one back to running again in the meantime.
Cheers!
