yeah... this 'protecting the children' mantra is getting retarded... why can't parents just police their own children for once? why does society have to look after your choice of having parasites?

Just think that not every kid has parents. The issue is not about your own kids appearing on the 'net but people trafficking with images/videos of other kids. This promotes child abuse.

I understand the importance of stopping such terrible acts. However, blocking usenet does not prevent the sick fu**ers from hurting the children unfortunately. Blocking usenet only slows down distribution for other sick F**ckers to watch or view photos.

Here is a though… get out there and catch the criminals taking the damn pictures and molesting/raping people!
**This is their mentality “I don’t see it, so it’s not happening”.

The great straw-man argument, they find something that nobody can defend, and use it as an excuse to take away a personal freedom from everyone, even if it only makes up .00000000000001% of the total traffic on usenet. Last time I checked, usenet piracy seemed to be mostly music, just like every other file-sharing protocol. Maybe if they didn't wreck the economy, we could all afford to go out and actually pay for the music we download....

[citation][nom]WheelsOfConfusion[/nom]I hear there's a lot of child porn and bestiality on the world wide web, too. Better have ISPs shut down access to that as well.[/citation]

Yes there is.
I'm all for destroying the child pornography industry. It disgusts me.
Sadly though P2P are the proefered choice of pedophiles...

But why destroy the farm animal video industry? Do you people have no souls?
If not in videos, these poor farm animals are beaten and abused, and eventually grusomely slaughtered for meat. 😉

Yeah and on top of that kids aren't looking up porn or stuff they don't like it they think it is gross.

Problem with newsgroups it's largely un-modded so anybody can post anything and such in nature of the internet it gets spread everywhere.

So there are plenty areas of abuse. The sickos knew this and continue to exploit it. I am in favor of putting the sick bastards in jail for exploiting kids like this. Sheesh.

It's a shame though. Newsgroups did have it's glory back in the early days, now it's just a breeding place for abuse.

Usenet can not be controlled.
Besides, ATT access was pretty lame, slow and incomplete.
Gigabit rocks. (among others) tunnelled access, 60 Mbps over 10+ connections, and very complete.

"American Online"
Keep that quality bar high, THG! You don't get worse every day, really!

Okay, you know, they should make a "safe" ISP. Limited daily access to microsoft.com, facebook, yahoo mail, and iTunes. Even better, make the next windows restricted to accessing those domains as well. That'd be swell.

How inventive of the big brother state minions... just regurgitating the old "protect the children" scam to promote censorship and state control.
