athlon mobile vs. P4 mobile vs. celeron ?

I'm lost in the cpu-types. Is there any comparison online in
performance/heat/battery-life.
What is "recommended" ? I need (as all do) good performance, less heat
and longer battery-life.

thnx,
peter

ps: any recommandation for a fast notebook (~2.5GHz) with acceptable
batterylife, 15'', dvd-burner and less than 3kg/6.6lbs ? I was really
thinking about the acer ferrari, but its batterylife seems to be very
poor and it gets hot on certain parts.

If you need good performance stick with either the Athlon or P4 chips. In
general Pentiums run cooler then AMD. But on the plus side AMD's are
cheaper. Stay away from the Celeron which is a downgraded Pentium chip. Both
the Athlon and P4 will out perform the Celeron.

Why do You list terrible hot and slow CPUs?

Pentium-M, all the other are to hot, to slow

I'm not telling 'ferry tails'... the Celeron is a chopped down Pentium chip.
Both the Athlon and P4 outperform the Celeron. Benchmarks vary with how the
user is using the cpu, so the results are only ever a rough figure.

I disagree with the comment that the Athlons are hotter than the pentium
4's.

In most cases the mobile Athlon XP Barton will run cooler then equivalent
pentium 4's therefore increasing running time on batteries.

And ?!?

When You look at the benchmarks, the Celeron is the slowest

Even an ancient mobile P3 notebook with 1000 MHz outperforms
a dektop with 2600 MHz.

But when somebody needs speed, he has to take the
Pentium-M Banias Centrino

But master in speed performance and battery life
is the Pentium-M Banias Centrino

Where do you get that idea from? - depending on the time of day,
market, whatever, it may be a next generation chip. It's generally
*been* the next generation chip but with lesser cache size, produced
while the main factories are still churning out the current generation
and severely underclocked in order to fill the market niche left behind
as the main fabs move production limits firther forward.

The result has been in the past that it's a wonderful thing to have.
It's usually been a low current drainer with low heat dissipation (it's
beeing underclocked, and usually has come from the fab making the next
size down in masks ...) that goes like a rocket.

No they don't. For one thing, there is no "the" of any of those! Some
of one outperform some of the other, depending on what you try, and
which clockspeeds you consider comparable.

Very clever, moriarty!

We all know that for you, only the Centrino is acceptable. For some
reason, you pick the P3 as your backup.

What benchmarks have you seen that show a 1ghz P3 outperforms a 2.6ghz
Celeron? I have never seen any such benchmark. Perhaps if you're
specifically testing cache performance you might see this, but this
has little to no bearing on real-world performance.

Can you provide anything to back up your claims?

You do realize there are quite a few people out there happy with their
P4 and Celeron laptops, don't you? Otherwise they wouldn't still be
selling them several years after their introduction.

Maybe You use only artificial benchmarks

I use only real world benchmarks.
The test was at the WDS content creation benchmark

That's wrong. The test does a real work.
The creation of a 600 pages web site out of a database

They do not know better
They think the fan noise is something give by god or so.
They can not imagine what a different a quiete notebook is.

They are usual sold in very loud shops,
so it's not possible to hear the annoying noise
