Hi people.

I am not sure how this happened, but i was unistalling some stuff from my lap, turned off for the night, next morning i see that my graphic card is vanished, and replaced by VGA Graphics Adapter, it has a yellow triangle on device manager list. No unistall done was related to ATI, or graphics in any way.

I am unable to install any CCC version, ATI Technologies folder remains empty, and i tried many versions. I know that my graphics are in Legacy support for some time now, and i downloaded from ATI site:

WHQL-Win8.1-Win7-Catalyst-15.7.1-Oct30
Same thing, doesnt ask for a restart, doesnt install Catalyst Control Center, ATI Technologies folder remains empty, cant find the app icon on desktop, simply not there...

Also, i downloaded from ACER site:
VGA_AMD_8.84.7.4_W7x64_A
VGA_AMD_8.741.1.5000_W7x64_A
VGA_ATI_8.692.1.0_W7x64_A
No effect.

I am unable to install manually, as it says that Standard VGA Graphics Adapter drivers are up to date.
No trouble whatsoever with Intel HD drivers, they install and work as they should. And no problems with any other driver, actually.

Configuration is:
Acer Aspire 7745G
Intel Core CPU M460 @ 2.53GHz
6GB RAM (5.68GB usable)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit System
Intel HD Graphics
ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5650

HardwareID
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6880&SUBSYS_03671025&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6880&SUBSYS_03671025
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6880&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_6880&CC_0300

Any help greatly appreciated! Cheers!

Solution
That doesn't sound at all like manually forcing a driver install. That instead sounds like you selected "update drivers" which is the automatic way.

There is nothing wrong with your hardware. It is supposed to stay shut off to save power until the Intel driver specifically hands things off to the ATI when more performance is needed. Unfortunately, without a manufacturer's utility or BIOS setting to force the ATI adapter to be primary, it's really tricky to install drivers for it because it's powered off.

Compunding the problem is Windows 7's requirement for all active adapters to use the same driver (both XP and Win10 allow you to have adapters from multiple manufacturers operating simultaneously) so the...

ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5650 chip on the motherboard probably defective. try this though, download display driver uninstaller, DDU. download your drivers for ati mobility radeon from acer site with your exact product model number. Put drivers to desktop and ddu also. boot into safe mode and run DDU and select AMD from right corner and then press recommended clean option. it will boot after its done go normal windows and install drivers from desktop

That laptop has switchable graphics, which can be very picky with graphics drivers. It may not work properly if for example you have installed the latest generic Intel IGP drivers instead of customized ones from Acer.

HP and Lenovo offer a utility that allows manually toggling which adapter is primary, which can make driver installation easier on their systems.

Hello people, and thank you for taking time to reply.
And im sorry for taking long to reply, been too busy lately.

Fagetti, i tried, no luck... Same thing, Standard VGA Graphics Adapter still there, Radeon Graphic card still gone.

BFG-9000, i tried both latest Intel IGP i could find, and customized ones from Acer, same thing, no luck. Unless i didnt understand what you were trying to say, but dont think so...

Well, thats what i get for buying piece of trash, just because i was in a hurry... And that guy selling this shit...
One thing is for sure, i will not come near AMD in future. I am far from expert, i know basic stuff... But why did they make it so complex to do a simple thing...?

Much appreciated fellas! Take care.

"and that guy selling this shit" was this used laptop? Probably some reflowed peace of crap :D
I hope not. Its not uncommon that gpu chip fails on these motherboards, no way to "revive" it than reflow (works little time, sometimes longer) or changing chip ( you never know if you even get new chip from china or some crap with new serial number )

There's only one Intel graphics driver listed at Acer: VGA_Intel_8.15.10.2202_W7x64_A

Actually nVidia had far more problems with GPUs in laptops than AMD, with all G84 and G86 GPUs being defective. HP and Dell offered BIOS updates to run the fan at full blast all of the time to try and workaround the issue, as there was nothing to replace them with but more defective boards. AMD on the other hand had many problems in X-Boxes but this was likely more a design problem that was more Microsoft's fault.

Yea, the price was 250 euros, aprox this time last year. As mentioned before, i was in a hurry, and needed something as i was going to a remote area for some time. Was in a military.
So basically, it is dead, but not dead enough to stop using the laptop? I play older games to kill time (so the time wont kill me :) )
Those games that need DirectX 9, and can run on Intel IGP.
It felt strange right from the start, for example, i was unable to play many games even when the card was doing its "job". Many, many games (that should work), dont. Most of them (SimCity 2013, CoH ToV etc...) play the sound, cursor is there, but the screen remains black. Thats when i first realized that something is wrong here...
-Note to myself, play stupid games, win stupid prize...
Ty for the reply!

And thats the one i installed here. From what i (think) i understand, this seems like a dead stop? :)

Well you would need to disassembly and try to reflow 5650 chip but that could kill whole motherboard if done bad. Also this is not really fix, but it can work from weeks to a year or two. Rarely the later. Still you can use INTEL so its not completely dead , just not for much gaming :D

Dont have the required skill for the reflow, although i do know how to disassembly, which i do regularly to clean things up, dust mostly. Bottom line, if one's into gaming, buy yourself a nice desktop setup.

Well, looks like i got the answer! Thank you very much!

Yeah spedning 800-1200$ for mid level gaming and 2000$ for high end gaming is alot. You can get same level Graphics on half less and even more if overclock gpu / cpu. I have 8 year old motherboard and cpu and 6 year old gpu and still can play almost every game on high-med/high settings and 2-3 years old games at very high.

Yeah, i got you.
It is a lot, unless one has money to spend :) Which i dont, ofc...

And overclocking sounds like high end skill for me (excuse my ignorance).
Looks like im stuck for now. I will invest some time in learning. Appreciated!

You need nothing extra for gpu overclocking. Just good cooler in gpu with 2 or even better 3 fans. A 20minute youtube video will teach you how to so it.. So easy.
Windforce gigabyte or msi has always good cooling

I see.
If i get you right, you would almost always recommend overclocking? From what i understand, there are gains, with only downside more heat from components? So one has to regulate that heat, otherwise it reduces the life of devices?

I will get into this. Thanks!

There is more experienced people at toms hardware / overclocking if you want to ask there more questions.
First of all you need good and stable Power supply which can provide extra wattage for cpu and gpu overclocking
Well Graphics card overcloc doesnt stress other parts of the system. It can only heat gpu itself but if you keep temperatures low and have good cooling on it (which is already stock in some gpu:s you dont need to buy it afterwards) it wont degrade, If you raise voltage then it can degrade more quickly. Depends if you buy older cards used then theyre cheap to replace if you see performance loss after sometime.
You can get that +20% performance even without raising voltage, some can even 25% but that would probably need voltage bump.

CPU overclocking you need better aircooler (easier solution) or water cooler and good motherboard which supports overclocking well.

Did you try forcing installing driver?
Type device manager in start, run it, find your Standard vga adapter, right click update, browse, then browse again and choose folder with drivers( the folder after intsaller unpack it) tick subfolders and press next and let it install.
