Battery at 0% works for hours

I've got old IBM ThinkPad T40 with 9cell battery (72 Wh) Windows XP. It shows full charge capacity 11.5Wh now. From 100% to 0 it takes about 40 minutes and then laptop works another two hours.

I tried three full cycles, but capacity is still the same (even little less). In BIOS I haven't found no calibration function.

Any tips for me?

It may well be that the battery just needs replacing. They do go after a while and having it hold less and less of a charge is a sign of a dying battery.

I would try monitoring it more, to see if this continues. The battery continues to hold less and less. If so, replace it.

Have you tried charging it fully, switching off, taking it out and putting it back in again?
It does seem odd that your computer thinks that the battery is dead, but can't be if it continues to function for a further two hours! Lol
Very peculiar, I suppose it would be worse if it thought the battery was full but it wasn't?

I know that after 13 years that battery won't have 100% of it's original charge, but it works for 3-4 hours, so I believe it has about 30-40% wear level. Also new battery would cost as two notebooks (This one I got for free from garbage...)

Once a battery get old, the meter reading will be way off and not to relied on. (Bill Maher: don't ask me why, I just know it's true).

But as you said, it give you a couple hours and it's FREE so hey, squeeze the last drop out of that lemon right.

After tenth full cycle it started to grow, now I'm at 58 Wh lol, guess it's good performance after those years.
