By BDVD, I'm guessing you mean Bluray player. If your TV has HDMI inputs then the simplest way to connect is via HDMI. It's one simple cable that carries audio and video digitally to your TV.

There is no need to get an expensive HDMI cable like the ones sold in home theatre stores. Look around. A local computer store sold me a perfectly good 6" cable for about $20. I've heard you can get ones online for under $10. Just make sure they specify HDMI 1.3.

I'm confused as to why you are putting the player in basement however. I haven't seen HDMI cables beyond about 20 ft but they should be good for up to about 50 ft (again, make sure they specify HDMI 1.3).

Since it's just a single cable, you should be able to fish it through the wall and floor to get between the two devices, if the distance isn't too great. Still, I don't understand why you are doing this.

Thanks for yoru response.

I have tv mounted on the wall in my family room and have no other place to keep my bdvd player ...if I put a table there are park it there ....it looks ugly with cables dangling so I decided to park the bdvd player in the basement ... adn the drop will be about 20 ft ..yes we can go upto 50ft HDMI cable before we put a signal enhancer etc.

I will keep that in mind the 1.3 HDMI.

I heard there are some HDMI Cables that have filter like connector/thing at both ends before the hdmi connector which removes unwanted data/spikes for better vdo and audio. have you heard/idea?????

I have a similar situation with a 52" LCD TV mounted above the fireplace in my family room (the builder offered that wiring option when we bought). I have a nice wood & glass equipment rack in the corner of the room, all the cables & wires concealed behind the rack for a clean look. Of course, I wired the room for 5.1 and HDMI before the drywall went up. However, you could always retrofit the room by running the speaker cables under the carpet or if you have wood or tile, behind the baseboard moulding. Or you can even buy paintable plastic covers at Home Depot that you could run above the baseboard, assuming the spouse agrees to this - yes it sticks out a bit but is not that noticeable when painted the same color, flat room paint, as the walls :). I've seen it in some friend's houses and if they hadn't pointed it out, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

For the TV run, if I hadn't run the HDMI cable behind the drywall I'd be in a pickle since the fireplace moulding runs all the way to the ceiling. However, there's wireless HDMI solutions - Belkin makes their Flywire, and Sony and Monster and Gefen and Philips all have products out or in development.

The trouble with your basement setup is having to change the discs of course, so I hope you have a multi-disc changer, or a kid who will run down there for a dollar to change it for you :).

It's called Ferrite.

Just a thought.

Have you consider getting a Playstation 3 as a Blu-ray Player? It can be place horizontal or vertical and it only require a small footprint if you need to build a shelf for it.

It also has hard drive so you can store some pictures, music and even video in it. The bonus is that kids can use it as game console which is what's intended for obviously. Whichever way you wanted - Game console 1st BD player 2nd or the other way around. One drawback is that menu screen looks childish but works very well and although the game controller is capable, you need to buy the remote.
