Since I cant solve the problem of Windows Media Player rebooting my PC when I try to play some video clips, I've tried using other media players (Real Player and ATI Media Player) and they play the files without any problems.
However, I miss the Windows Media Player feature that allows you to adjust brightness and contrast of the image.
Is there a free player that allows adjustment of brightness and contrast of video files (mpg, mpeg, avi, etc)? Where can I download it?

Hmm, not sure about that exactly. But my Nvidia graphics card does allow me to adjust the brightness, contrast etc of the screen. So too do the controls on my monitor for that reason.

I was actually referring to a media player like Windows Media Player 8 that has these equalizer like bars that allow you to adjust brightness, contrast, hue, etc. of the video clip only, without affecting the rest of the screen.
I like Windows Media Player very much, but it causes my computer to crash with some files, and I cant fix the problem, so I'm looking for another media player.

Have you tried Windows Media Player (and i'm not being stupid or awkward)?
By that i mean Media Player 6.4.
Its actually the one i use more than any, and i refuse to upgrade to 7 (and cant go higher as i dont have Win XP) due to the unnecessary 'bonuses' (ie excess fat). Media Player 6.4 is slim and trim, and you only have to add codecs that you want in the normal way.

That said, i have no idea if you can 'regress' Win XP to use 6.4 or not.
