I was wondering which software you guys use when you rip CDs for your non-mp3 capable CD players? I tried two so far and they were unstable.

Also, which software do you use to encode and burn the actual discs during the write process. Dupro came with my Plextor but that doesn't work very well as it didn't put in the proper code for my CD player to recognize the disc. I was thinking of installing a trial version of Nero. Which software works best for you guys?

I thought you were saying MP3 to WAV. For that I use Shuffler (<A HREF="http://www.illustrate.org" target="_new">http://www.illustrate.org</A>). Nice little program that works better than any program I used for that purpose. Ripping CDs I use Audio Catalyst, quite useful, but not good enough.

Heres my list of favorite tools:

rip : cdcopy (windoze), cdparanoia (linux)
wav->mp3 : bladeenc 0.92
players : xmms (linux), winamp 2.666 (windoze)
mp3->wav : mpg123 (linux), winamp 2.666 (windoze)
burners : Easy cd creator, Nero 5.x

For me easy cd creator works always on normal cases (just music burning or just data burning). Nero is reserved for more complicated tasks...

I like Winamp to do MP3 to WAV job. It is neat, fast and it definitely knows what to do.

The best programs to rip wavs from cd's are...

Steinberg "Clean!"
Audiograbber/AudioCatalyst

Best to encode Wav to Mp3

Xing Mp3 Encoder

Allows "variable bitrates" which emulates the true,
rich, sound of analog (I WISH people on NAPSTER knew this!!) Nothing, in my opinion, is better than XING.
Many other programs allow variable bitrates, so try
those out too; you won't be dissapointed.

U guys got it wrong! The best software to do ALL u want about mp3s is Easy CDDA Extractor http://www.poikosoft.com/cdda/
U can rip music CD in mp3 in just a click, using 3 kind of mp3 encoders!! It download all the album infos and tag ur mp3s. Plus it can easily convert any sound files in any sound files! All this in a less then 5 megs program. Got a GUI mostly like CD grabber.

Be sure to use version 2.666 or newer. Previous versions of Winamp nitrane decoder contained a glitch that affected sound quality - or actually the bug was already in original frauenhofer's decode-code example, not nitrane itself.

A lot of good suggestions. I DL'd Real Jukebox and it does a credible job. Unfortunately it pukes on mono files. Do any of these other puppies convert mono to stereo or puke on mono?

Nero will accept mp3 tracks, and decode them on the fly for you. I also use nero for ripping CD's, but I use the WMA format. (yess I know it's microsoft, but have you ever listened to mp3's on a high end hifi? Even at high bitrates there's a significant differance to the original. With WMA the quality is much better!

yeah.....definetely MPs are of lower quality.....but could you make yourself a little clearer....i don't get it.....u mean u first convert MP3 to WMA then to wav...and that helps improve the quality..????
and if i got you totally wrong.....is there any way of making an audio CD from MP3 with the SAME quality as the original Audio CD...???
and oh....another little thing....can you crop seconds off a MP3 file..??
