Bought a television in 2008 told it was digital ready but now found out only dig

Bought a t.v in December 2008. Told it was digital ready when we bought it, but 4 years later when we need to switch to digital have discovered it is only digital approved for the UK and northern Ireland. we purchased in south of Ireland as that is were we live, we also took out extended warranty on t.v. what rights do we have

Unfortunately, nothing. You could take it up with the store you purchased it from. It's doubtful they'll do anything. I'm not familiar with ireland's TV system, as i live in the States. I would imagine there is some sort of Conversion unit available.
