hehehe just had a thought about how backwards this thinking is... Didn't the Irish like bomb the hell out of you for sticking your nose into places it didn't belong?
Moreover - Hasn't the UK had to give up pretty much ALL land that it once controlled? When are you guys gonna get a brain and realize that this imperial gestapo crap doesn't work? America is about to learn this lesson, and I predict, as with all revolutions, the cost will be steep. But it seems that high cost lessons are the only ones that stick.

Yes, they did. Over something that happened a long time ago. Are you seriously suggesting that the current generation of this country want to fuck over Ireland, and the rest of the world for that matter? Or is it a historical problem? I think you'll find that most people here will publicly admit that indiscretions by our ancestors are a little embarrassing. But WE didn't do it. It certainly had fuck all to do with me. I mean, I can get wasted sometimes, but surely I'd remember if I'd oppressed half the world.

And (the United States of) America was given a shock on 9/11. And it was aimed at us too. Doesn't make it right though.

If you have any more mindless babble to spew can we get it over with. I have some paint to watch dry.

learn from history or be doomed to repeat it. I used Ireland as an example. My point is that people, as a rule, dont like to be controlled like this and can react harshly. Care must be taken when there are more of "them" (the poor, disenfranchised etc...) than there are of you (not you personly, but the upper-class and the aristocrats that think this crap up.)
I hope this made my point a little more clear.

This is Britain, not Russia or China or North Korea, right?

Just checking which foot the shoe is on...

The people who say "I have nothing to hide, go ahead, put CCTV's up" should all be slapped upside the head. They have allowed the thin edge of the wedge to be levered under. Now it's homes, next neighborhoods, etc etc. I would truly love to see someone with nothing to hide monitored 24hrs/365. Forget the proverb about interesting times, where is the proverb about truly frickin scary times?

Precisely. That is clearer. Care should be taken. This could easily be the first of many small steps towards complete surveillance. I can imagine each tiny step towards the erosion of all our civil liberties. And the trend will catch on, with every country citing the improvement in law and order and other benefits. Basically, like AlexKNY is hinting at, like China.

It could easily happen. Like the slow encroachment into green belt land near my home, there is always an excuse to 'progress' that little bit further.

Anyway, I think it's all academic. I truly believe that western society has gotten too used to it's freedoms to let them be removed. Even our generation isn't that fucking lazy that it would allow this kind of control over it. But, I could be wrong.

[citation][nom]Jinx13[/nom]W.T.F.Suddenly I'm proud to be an American again! At least our Gov't doesn't publicly invade our privacy, they have the common courtesy to be sneaky about it!No. Seriously.W!T!F![/citation]
Note the operative word here. Have you ever heard of the Patriot Act?

I think you just made an American friend 😉

Well, when this happens in my own home - I'll make sure to move to Antarctica ... or any other part of world where there's no single electronic device in radius of 10 miles around me.

@chaohsiangchen obviously we're not ever heard of the patriot act? It's a big fuck you to the constitution all done in the name of terrorism. Which gives them what they want, but hey don't tell the american public that.

As far as this goes, it's fucked up. If the parents did something bad enough to lose their privacy over take away the damn kids already.

invasion of privacy.

this will not go well here. there would be a civil war if this where ever to happen in the north America.

lol

to remove a book form being sold demonstrate that the books story are coming to life.

News like this makes me happy I live in the U.S. This is a serious infringement on civil liberties. As a veteran, this is the exact thing that I served my country to guard against. Thank goodness for the Bill of Rights and the Second Amendment!

Can we say Nanny State? This is the reality TV show Nanny 911 on a national scale. Sounds like the Brits need an organization like the ACLU.

George Orwell is probably looking down from Heaven with a big smile saying, "I told you so!"

[citation][nom]msuguy71[/nom]For those who don't think America is heading this way just look at what is happening over here. Our phone calls and emails are already monitored by the NSA through the telecos. There was legislation pending on putting gps tracking units on our cars. The Patriot Act (or as I like to call it the anti-rebellion act) greatly reduces our rights and freedoms. It is not a huge stretch to having cctv in our homes.[/citation]

The NSA does monitor emails and phones, however this in not the movie Eagle Eye where there is a central agency tapped into and in control of everything. Fact is, even the NSA needs a VERIFIEABLE THREAT and a COURT ORDER to access to Telco and CATV company records. Contrary to what folks may think, the U.S. government is still for the people and by the people. The Founding Fathers established the Bill of Rights to ensure the people, and not Big Brother, are the ultimate deciders of what liberties and freedoms citizens enjoy.

But there's the rub, it's up to us as the people and citizens of the U.S. to ensure and defend our inherent civil liberties and rights. That means being informed, involved, defending, and participating in how we want the government to run; not curtailing our rights and liberties to the minority as a result of our own apathy and lack of personal responsibility.

You remember that concept, right; personal responsibility? Exercise it some time, it feels good!

[citation][nom]astrodudepsu[/nom]Who was speaking specifically about Britain? I was talking about Europeans in general.AND if you look at a map of a continental shelf, Britain is most certainly attached to the Eurasian continent. When that continent drifts, GB will drift with it.[/citation]

Its still considered an island. and by definition, an island cannot be part of a continent.

Yes, it is part of the same tectonic plate, so it drifts with the euroasian continent, but it is not part of said continent.

and CCTV is peoples homes has already been denied by the UK government....

What if they like to have sex all over the house? What then? I bet the guys checking the video will masturbate on the footage. LOL

Good stuff! That way I'll have somewhere to stay when 'they' stick a camera in my living room to film my evening sofa nookie :) I'll buy the pizza.
