Yes, they did. Over something that happened a long time ago. Are you seriously suggesting that the current generation of this country want to fuck over Ireland, and the rest of the world for that matter? Or is it a historical problem? I think you'll find that most people here will publicly admit that indiscretions by our ancestors are a little embarrassing. But WE didn't do it. It certainly had fuck all to do with me. I mean, I can get wasted sometimes, but surely I'd remember if I'd oppressed half the world.

Care must be taken when there are more of "them" (the poor, disenfranchised etc...) than there are of you (not you personly, but the upper-class and the aristocrats that think this crap up.)

The people who say "I have nothing to hide, go ahead, put CCTV's up" should all be slapped upside the head. They have allowed the thin edge of the wedge to be levered under. Now it's homes, next neighborhoods, etc etc. I would truly love to see someone with nothing to hide monitored 24hrs/365. Forget the proverb about interesting times, where is the proverb about truly frickin scary times?

Precisely. That is clearer. Care should be taken. This could easily be the first of many small steps towards complete surveillance. I can imagine each tiny step towards the erosion of all our civil liberties. And the trend will catch on, with every country citing the improvement in law and order and other benefits. Basically, like AlexKNY is hinting at, like China.

It could easily happen. Like the slow encroachment into green belt land near my home, there is always an excuse to 'progress' that little bit further.

Anyway, I think it's all academic. I truly believe that western society has gotten too used to it's freedoms to let them be removed. Even our generation isn't that fucking lazy that it would allow this kind of control over it. But, I could be wrong.

Contrary to what folks may think, the U.S. government is still for the people and by the people. The Founding Fathers established the Bill of Rights to ensure the people, and not Big Brother, are the ultimate deciders of what liberties and freedoms citizens enjoy.

But there's the rub, it's up to us as the people and citizens of the U.S. to ensure and defend our inherent civil liberties and rights. That means being informed, involved, defending, and participating in how we want the government to run; not curtailing our rights and liberties to the minority as a result of our own apathy and lack of personal responsibility.

You remember that concept, right; personal responsibility? Exercise it some time, it feels good!
