"Deleted from the server in a way that can't be recovered"

But not, of course, before the NSA grabs a permanent copy.

Of course, the terms of service state that the messages being sent should not be illegal in any way, which would include, hateful, intimidating or harassing messages.

Yeah...because THAT'S enforceable...

You can't block screenshots. It's done at the OS level. Hit the buttons on iOS, Android, or a desktop OS, and you have some record. Won't hold up in court or anything, though, because your screenshots can be photoshopped.

Just tried Snipping Tool and was able to get a screen shot of the text I sent myself. Just pin snipping tool to the task bar and as soon as you select to see the message hit the snipping tool button and the text comes back even though the website replaced the image with another one

protip, if you need something to stay a secret...

use nothing digital
do not speak of it if there is a cell phone nearby (even if it is powered off)

Nutter.

Take a picture of the monitor. Nothing can stop that.

Then they can accuse you of photoshop, which leads you to nowhere...

Nope, but enough screenshots probably give enough reasonable evidence to check their ISP logs. And if they were accessing the site shortly before you received the message, that's pretty good circumstantial evidence, especially if it happened repeatedly.

depends on how short the message is. if its only a word or two and fits in the spyglass you can printscreen it as well. and the default time is 180 seconds, which is plenty of time for someone to take a handful of screenshots to get a longer message put together.

Screenshots are very easy to prevent, you just need to render the text like an CRT monitor such that any screenshot can only contain a single pixel or line of the actual image.

Or a screen capture program like the one thats comes with OS X.
