Buying a laptop on a 1500-2K budget: Should I wait for the Holiday's? A Skylake laptop release? Customize a gaming laptop now?

What does everyone think is the best decision right now based on this?

I really need a laptop so I can do non 3D/Adobe design atm moment, but I will need it to be capable of doing all of those, while being able to game when idle.

So, my choices right now are, Origin, Auros, and MSI. These are the top ones. The first two are very customizable, which is why I like them.

I just need a justification to see if waiting is worth it.

Thanks and I hope I get some good feedback.

I'm also maximizing my budget to upgrade my build w/o completely overhauling my PC, i.e. my FX-8350(4.5ghz) + Sabertooth 990FX. Adding in a 980Ti and a 750w EVGA PSU + a 1440p 27" IPS monitor(When I can find one with no issues with it)

BTW here's my CURRENT BUILD

Mobile Xeons on Notebooks for the first time . plus tons of new features.

If I could make a suggestion outside of the laptop issue, You would be pretty good to go with another GTX 960 4GB in sli since you have the 4GB version anyway which is made for sli given it can't use the 4GB on it's own. That will topple any single solution GPU, and your mobo will run two PCIe slots at x16. Also, laptops have gone up in price a little under the justification of back to school season I am assuming, so I would wait.

Saw this one a few days back. But, aren't Xeon CPU's mostly for servers? Or have I been wrong in think that? Cuz, I'd like to also game on my laptop on my idle days for the next year and a half.

Really like this one though, it's where my Skylake addition came from.

Xeons are for Worsktations and servers .. meaning Auto CAD and 3D rendering. and they use ECC memory. and they can address upto 64G of RAM in notebooks and 1.5 Tera of RAM in server/workstation desktops.

performance wise in gaming they are the same of the regular CPU at the same frequency and Core count.

the chipset also offers true M2 slot in notebooks which can give upto 4000MB/s SSD cards , samsung 951 already hit 2200MB/s SSD , and the price is near the SSD SATA3 price ... not that expensive.

I have... been thinking about that. But I feel like I'd be spending more on it than just buying a GTX 970, so I'd best go 1 step higher, and get a 980Ti. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Which one though? Thanks, I really hope that will be the last additions I'll be doing.

Hmm.. That's a very nice thought then. A very strong point to wait 2 more months then. Make the purchase more worth it.
