Cable Card vs converter box

I recently ordered a Panasonic Plasma TV (TH-42PX25U) that has a
cablecard. I expect delivery this weekend. Next week I plan to call my
cable company, Cablevision to upgrade my service to IO digital. I need this
to get the HDTV signals. I think I have a choice between a $4.95 rental of
the converter box or a $1.25 rental of the cable card. Is this true or do I
need both?
BTW, did I make a mistake by buying a 5 year warranty for $399? I
normally don't buy these. FWIW, P.C. Richards wanted $899 for this.

You do not need both the box and the card.

It depends upon whom you bought the extended from and what the fine
print says. Generally, I am becoming a firm believer in extendeds on
plasmas due to their relatively short lifespan and susceptability to
failures (based solely upon my own experience in the showroom and from
feedback from our techs). Great choice, BTW, as far as plasmas go :)

From what I read cable card gives you
a little better picture,But unless your
set has video outs you will need a
box for recording ,and for the guide.
