Caddy DVD adaptor for main HDD

Hi guys. I'm having a big problem with a costumer notebook. It is a ACER E531-2606, and its main HDD sata conector is dead. But its optical driver is working. So, if I buy some of this adaptors to replace the main HDD, and use it to install and boot WIndows, will it work? Sorry for my bad and limited english!!! Please help me!!! Thx in advance!

I am not sure if you can use the external bay for a main drive, it may be seen as removable media in the BIOS and Windows will not install on removable media.

That looks to be a pretty new laptop, it's not in warranty anymore?

Are you asking if you can replace the DVD drive with an HDD using a HDD caddy and get it to boot from that drive instead?

Yuo thats it. It is the only way to get it wrking again. In fact, the main sata bay still functional, but not the power source. So for os install I'll provide power to the drive via another computer, and conect it to the main sata by an extension sata cable. After installing it I'll put it on the caddy, then try to boot from there the operacional system...I've looking for this aswer EVERYHERE on the web, but no one seen to have such a problem like mine...reflow on the main sata connector is not an option for me, since I'm far from the big cities...sorry 'bout my terrible english!
