Solved! Can a DVR be used with a digital cable box to turn the cable box into a PVR?

We have a plain digital cable box and I was wondering if I purchase a DVR, will it make the cable box act like a PVR?

The DVR will record the output of the cable box using whichever connection you choose to use. It will not have the program guide so you will have to set the record schedule manually. If you want the DVR to change channels on the cable box it will need to have an IR emitter and the codes to the cable box. You will not be able to watch and record different programs or record 2 programs while watching a previously recorded program.
