I have a windows tablet with hdmi (lenovo thinkpad 8.3"). There is a lot of info on how to connect it up to a tv to display video but can it be used the other way round? I want to connect it to a dvd player and use the tablet as a screen (due to the dearth of decent portable dvd players). Is there a piece of software that can do that or does the hdmi only work in an outwards direction?

There are laptops that have HDMI input/output well at least 1 that I know of (Alienware 18). But that has been discontinued by Dell (alienware) the the 2015 models only have HDMI output. But if you have the DVD most non-Ultrabooks have optical DVD drives.
