Can I get my laptop to communicate to my bluray player through the wireless router that connects them to the internet?

My Lenovo G505 laptop and Sony BDP-S6700 bluray player are both wireless connected to a Netgear router for internet access.

Can the laptop and player communicate with each other through the router?

No, the network connection for the blueray player is for apps the player has not for transmitting video. If you have a shared folder on the laptop, then the player should be able to see the shared folder to play files from it, if that is what you mean. I have not used that specific model, but most "smart" players have an option to view files on the network.
