Unless someone else has the same computer running Ubuntu you may have to do some digging to see which sound/graphics/drive/USB and network controller hardware you have and whether Ubuntu drivers exist for them.

Most new computers have a chipset that almost does the lot -- which may simplify finding drivers.

These days most Linux distribs work out of the box with just a few manual fixes needed. Some versions can be tested running from a CD, leaving any Microsoft OS intact while you assess Linux. Power saving can be controlled from the BIOS so the OS isn't an issue.

As fihart said, Just boot to the CD and select try Ubuntu. It will let you know if you need any drivers. If it works when you try Ubuntu it will work when you install it. 10.04 LTS, has the most up to date drivers installed. If the Wireless does not work see if madwifi has drivers for your wireless card, AMD does have Linux drivers for the HD5000 series, and most sound cards just work in Linux.

Let us know how it works out.
