Can I still experience error with steam if i use a HUB?

Hi guys i have been experiencing an error in steam that says "cannot connect to the steam network", my PC is connected to the router but when i try directly connecting to the modem it works perfectly, but then again the router has wi-fi and my family use it all the time so i can't just connect directly to the modem. If I buy a HUB and connect my PC to it. will I still experince the "cannot connect to steam server"?

If you connect the hub to your modem then connect your family wireless router and pc to the hub it should work just fine.

Where should I put the ethernet cable? i would buy a TP-Link SF1008D. can you check it for me?

I don't think this will work. Which ever device is turned on first, the PC or router, will get assigned a public IP address, effectively making the other devices not usable on the internet. the hub would have to come after the router: modem->router->hub, which would put him in the same position he's in now. I think the OP would be better off trying to reconfigure the router so both wired and wireless can access the internet.

Are you sure you are letting the right ports through?

Here is a link to the right ports that need to be open in order for steam to properly go through your router:

Just find your make and model on the page and it should give you a walkthrough of how to PROPERLY use port forwarding.

Sometimes just enabling UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) in your router will suffice, otherwise you need to poert forward as stated above.

i tried the port forwarding and i am 100% sure that i done it correctly but i still get the error. but i haven't try UPnP, how do i enable it?

Anyway I just try disabling UPnP (it was already checked) but still nothing same goes to it being checked.
How can I fix this error, im getting frustrated.. .

Enable UPnP. You don't want it Disabled.
