The display on my mac is broken. How do i connect an external monitor without the need of using my current screen? And .. Can i get my mac air screen detached and use the rest of it with a monitor as a desktop?
NO. Per here https/www.apple.com/macbook-air/features.html shows the features, and the only 'external' port for any video 'out' is Thunderbolt, which last I heard quite expensive to get a 'Thunderbolt' based monitor, in fact you would be FOOLISH to get it as compared to just paying for the repairs to the Mac at your nearest Apple Store.
Could give these a whirl, but honestly, I noticed with Apple products, unless Apple makes it specifically OR it comes with a FULL COMPATIBILITY warranty emboldened on the item they normally don't work fully as expected.
Could try, can't hurt, but that be the best 'juryrig'.
What if i buy a thunderbolt to hdmi converter cable? To use with all monitors
I have one of these and it works perfectly. If you need to use your mac and don't have the time to get the screen fixed now, this is definitely the best way to go. The adapters are pretty cheap as well and can come in handy in other situations considering most new apple computers only have thunderbolt as a video output.
