In Toronto, Bay-Bloor Radio (not so much in the high-end line as they used
to be, but a few good things if you hunt around and ask the right
questions.) Also, Brack Electronics. A little pretentious, but look in the
basement for the best stuff.
For CDs - none better in the world than Sam the Record Man, 247 Yonge St.
Three seperate store-fronts, two floors, with the remainder bins on the
third floor. It doesn't look like much but the selection is unbelievable.
Special-ordering is excellent, too - fast and efficient.
For DVDs - go to Bay St. Video, just south of Bloor. They claim to have
the largest selection in the city, and I believe them. Lots and lots of
box sets of TV shows, etc.
If you're a Sony guy (especially TVs) G&G Electronics, Kingston Rd. It's a
long hike away from downtown, but best prices on everything in the Sony
line. Very big on home theatre generally.
I'm kind of out of circulation since I bought top-quality many years ago
and haven't done any hardware buying for a long time. Still, this should
get you started.
Best,
Greg.
