Cheap iPod dock broke

I bought an ipod dock, for my ipod video a few years ago. it worked great until it died last year...the actual connector on the dock that plugs into the ipod fell off.

would it be possible to heat gun it back on? is there any other way to fix it? can upload pics if necessary

If available use a simple walkman jack plug cable link between the dock and the iPod headphone socket.

You could connect the iPod to a hifi with a walkman jack to RCA phono cable and dump the dock.

i mean thats how i was doing it. the problem is all my cables dont seem to work like they used to, and i need to be able to control the ipod from across the room. not out of laziness, my guitar stuff is on one side, the receiver is on the other.
