Cheapest /best 7" or 10" tablet

We want to purchase a tablet for the basics, surfing, email, watch films, read books.
Due to illness I spend 5-6 weeks at a time lying flat in bed, as you can imagine this becomes tedious so I do not want to spend a lot of money as we have a PC (which I cannot get to lying in bed)
I read so much about tablets it just becomes a techi nightmare ( I am not techi).
Any ideas would be great

I'd put my money on the Nexus 7 but Amazon is releasing an updated Fire, Kindle Fire HDX, which might be better considering the Snapdragon 800 (2.2GHz) verses the Nexus 7's Snapdragon S4 Pro (1.5 GHz). Same price as the N7 btw.

I'm more of a spec freak myself so I'd more likely wait for the Kindle Fire DHX to be rooted and outfitted with something like CM and go with that, purely for the spec boost and updated architecture in the 800 Series. Otherwise, the Nexus 7 is great.

True but remember the little disclaimer you dropped in there "If you are in the UK". If not, these are surely some of the best deals you can find, especially where reliability is concerned.

To the OP, you can also look into older models of the Nexus 7 (2011/2012) or Kindle Fire. They are great devices which you can find for under $100 on Ebay.
