I purchased a intel i7 processor with a TPD of 35 W. My labtop has a code name of Ivy Bridge and so does the processor i have BEFORE upgrading. The new processor i bought has a code name of Sandy something. And when i installed it and after 17 mins of the labtop running it randomly shuts down and even at a temp of 50*C. Im also using an external labtop cooler but is the codename suppose to match the motherboard to run correctly?

Wait so when upgrading a CPU. I used CPUID program to check this. My old processor has a codename of IvyBridge, and my motherboard chipset is a ivybridge. When i upgraded my processor to I7 it said Sandy Bridge for the CPU and my motherboard Chipset was IvyBridge so do those have to match so its able to work proper?
