Computer Will Not Hard Reset

I was on the web and then all of the sudden it showed I had no internet connectivity and about 20 seconds later I had no internet connections nearby and then showed the laptop symbol with an 'x' through it. I decide to restart my laptop and as it's trying to turn back on it says "The selected boot device failed. Press <Enter> to continue." I press enter and it shuts off. I tried hard resetting and it doesn't change anything. It takes me back to "The selected boot device failed..." endless cycle. Help.

HDD has died, not selected as boot device in BIOS, or has corrupted the boot sector.

My hunch is a dead HDD and you have been very unlucky.
