Connect laptop to higher res monitor.

Hi,
I have a Gigabyte P15F V5 laptop with a max resolution of 1920x1080, and I was wondering would it be possible to connect that laptop to a 27 inch monitor with a resolution of 2560x1440, and have it look good? Or should I just buy a monitor with an identical resolution to that of my laptop? Primary use for the monitor is Photoshop, 3D modelling and maybe some gaming on the side.

Note: the laptop has a geforce GTX 950M, and a Intel(R) HD Graphics 530

You can connect a 1440p monitor, no problem. That GPU isn't powerful enough to game at that resolution though.
