Connecting old receiver to New flat screen Sony for sound

sony GX47ES to new Flat scree with digital output. I have polk audio speakers.Since no Aux on receiver may I use tape or tape

The biggest problem with using an old receiver is that it is stereo only. That is not the optimum setup for TV. Get something that will decode surround sound and put the old Sony in the garage.

If your TV only has optical audio output then you will need a DAC like this one

and cables. This is a fixed output so you will have to use the control on the receiver to adjust volume.
