I have two KRK 5 studio monitors that I'm using as speakers. Right now im using a TRS cables that connects the two speakers to my computer. I recently just bought a low budget sub Pioneer SW8K and was wondering what cables I'll need and how to hook it up to my monitor. Do I need to buy a separate audio interface as well?

Solution
so you're connecting the two powered speakers up using a standard 3.5mm cable on the pc side?

you could split the signal at the source (headphone/front speaker output on the pc) and send the one side to the subwoofer and other side to the speakers as normal. to cut out all the high signals i'd put in a low-pass filter.

since for 2.0/2.1 systems a pc doesnt output a seperate subwoofer signal (it does for 5.1 and 7.1) thats going to be your best choice.

If your PC has an orange audio output this is the center/subwoofer output. You will need a cable with a 3.5mm stereo mini plug at the PC and it will have a pair of RCA outs on the other end. You only use one of them. Set the audio on the PC to 2.1
If your PC only has left and right audio outs (such as a laptop) then you can split the output and feed one pair to the KRK and the other to the subwoofer.
