Connection Confusion !

I have just bought an LG 50LB5610 TV to go with my Sony Bluray/Home Theatre. Previously I had this connected to a different sony TV via HDMI and they interacted perfectly turning on/off and played sound.

With the new LG, I cant find a setting to enable home theatre from HDMI (only optical) and the LG SIMPLINK doesn't seem to join them together either ?

What am I doing wrong ?! Please don't say the new LG TV doesn't support sound out via hdmi...

Could not find any read specs on your TV but if you can't find mention of ARC (audio return channel) in the manual you have to use the optical. If you do find it make sure it is turned on in one of the menus.
The LG SIMPLINK may only work with other LG components so using the setup may not be a simple as it was when you had Sony TV - Sony HTiB. You may have to activate it one the menus as well.
