converting sound via pc to tv

i just wondered if I left the house a part and cable to cause audio sound to work via my tv from lap top platform, how come i cant get any sound in your thoughts and answer to what way ill take and what works best considering i know that there is multiable ways to convert sound

If your laptop has HDMI out then that will get audio and video into your TV.
If your laptop uses any other connection (such as VGA) you will need to use an additional cable for audio. It would have a 3.5mm stereo mini plug at the laptop end and either the same or 2 RCA plugs at the TV end.
