In related news, taser now announced their market leading Taser X26 will now be offered in "children edition" 😛.

Ok, jokes aside, given the known dangers of tasers, the cop probably should have opted for another solution. I mean his life or even security wasn't even in danger so could simply call the office and ask them what he should do ...

As for being able to handle a small child, it's not because you can do it for a grown man that you would instinctively be able to apply it to such a small and frail body. I mean, the title of this article could become "Cop breaks an 10 yr old girl's arm trying to arm-lock her" and people would be as pissed.

O and theres nothing wrong with a bear hug. It's a very good way to hold a child. As you can grab there arms, put them to their chest, and even put one leg around theirs to keep them from kicking so much. While this may not be comfortable it causes no harm what so ever. And lets them know YOU'RE in charge and their not. While doing all this you can talk calmy to the child, or simply sit their and hold them till they calm down.

[citation][nom]tester24[/nom]However I think the cop did the right thing anyways, if it were an older person like a teenager I bet half the people who are bitching about it would have nothing to say.[/citation]

Bullshit. You only use a tazer in a life threatening situation. There is no way a 10 year-old female is a threat without possessing a weapon. If either knew anything about kids, then they would have known to just back-off, let the kid have her tantrum, and eventually she will exhaust herself. Besides, any good cop knows some pressure points that can subdue an individual. Both the mother and cop should have child abuse charges filed against them.

Those who say you cannot spank your child without the SS getting involved are out of touch. As a parent you have every right to discipline your child...within reason. You can thump them or spank them, but once you start shaking or beating then you have a problem...and you should. I have never seen a parent get in trouble for using discipline. Of course, like everything, there will be exceptions since there are ignorant people everywhere.

I think people should wait for the whole story before bashing anyone in this article.

1. We don't know the parenting situation. Perhaps bad parenting, mental deficiency, etc

2. Police must take EVERY call seriously. Even misbehaving children.

3. Typical actions to subdue someone would involved physical actions that put the officer and suspect at risk. As mentioned he already put his nads at risk and paid that price. Whats next? His face? etc

4. The child broke the law. Being incorrigible, battery, and assault.

5. I do agree that Tazers can be dangerous to anyone. Should it of been used on this 10 year old? Maybe? Maybe not? We don't have the whole story.

[citation][nom]JofaMang[/nom]Then send him home without pay until the investigation is done. No private sector job has the same protections. If someone reports me stealing from my employer, I go home without a job. Yet if a cop decides that using a taser on a 10year old child (in recent years found NOT to be such a non-lethal weapon) he gets a paid vacation. Even if he does face penalization in the form of job loss, he doesn't have to pay back the money he was paid while waiting for judgement. That is OUR money. They work for us.[/citation]

Here is another phrase for you... Due Process.
Removing his pay in the interim is punishment before conviction.
A more accurate example would be if a co-worker said you were stealing and your company fired you without even going through the motions of checking the story for validity.

As for not having to pay back the salary if convicted, that is not true everywhere. Excessive use of force will get you terminated and in most places I have lived, it will also get you indicted for criminal offenses and open it up for civil prosecution as well.
Not just job loss... potential freedom loss as well.

[citation][nom]djackson_dba[/nom]Innocent until proven guilty. You may have heard this somewhere before...[/citation]

Then take away pay pending outcome of investigation. Even if found guilty, they don't pay back the money from their free tax funded vacation, which can last months to years depending on the police department. I certainly wouldn't get paid while waiting to find out if I got fired for assaulting someone on the job. I would just get fired. The history the police have with protecting their own, alongside holding public safety hostage in police union negotiations/strike action, leaves us with authority with no responsibility, nor consequence.

I'm not saying send the guy to jail today, but FFS, don't pay him to sit at home pending what is basically a peer review. The Military doesn't even provide this sort of financial protection, and soldiers bear a far greater responsibility for decision making in the heat of the moment.

[citation][nom]djackson_dba[/nom]Non-Lethal does not mean non-dangerous. This is especially true when small children are involved.[/citation]

Of course it is dangerous, that is not the point....but it is still non-leathal. It is about being an effective means of controlling someone. You can only sit there and yell at someone for so long until you need to phyically exert force on them to get compliance.

The girl is alive. This is the purpose of the taser.

Cops are taser-happy these days. Tasers should be a method for the cop to protect himself and the public from harm. It should only be used when a subject can't be otherwise safely restrained.

[citation][nom]hypocrisyforever[/nom]if you can't restrain a 10yo girl without a tazer, you DEFINITELY should NOT be a cop. Period. [/citation]
If you have to call the police when your child doesn't want to take a shower, you DEFINITELY should NOT be a mother. Period.

That is true as well, not being able to control your child shows bad parenting. Yes, children will get upset over what you make them do, but bottom line is they can be upset but should respect and do what you say. Teaching a child to respect authority (parents, cops, teachers) is a very important and basic part of being a parent, if you cannot do that, then you fail as a parent.

Being a father, if one of my kids did that, they'd get a belt or shoe or a hanger in the ass so quick they wouldn't know what hit them. All you'd hear is them crying and start listening to what I'll be saying. If it gets that far lol. That's how you cure disobedience these days. Kids do get out of control now days. I remember being a young boy and never acted out like these kids. kind of sad to hear such stories though.

Taser is NOT non-lethal over 351 in the US alone have been killed so far by tasers.

You could call a gun non-lethal you get shot and no vital organs or veins get hit.

It is all chance, if the person has a heart problem, or a dozen other medical conditions an electric shock could instantly kill them.

If they get shocked at a specific time when heart is beating there is a 1 in 500 chance of stopping even a perfectly healthy persons heart.

Also a man doused himself with gasoline at a gas pump an officer saw this pulled out his taser and you can guess what happened after that.

Another man was standing on a building ledge ready to jump again an officer pulls out his taser and hits the man you can guess what happened.

I would not call the above non-lethal force.
