If my kid was spazzing to the point I thought she might hurt herself (and kids do) I could see this as a possibility. Not cool, but not that big a deal either.

why isnt the mother being punished for even suggesting a tazer to be used on her daughter. that is absolutely unacceptable, just b/c a man gets kicked in the groin doesnt mean he can taze a child. and the police shouldnt have even showed up, is there really no other crimes to fight besides a 10 year old not taking a shower? i really hope no one died b/c of his neglect

Right, I'm sure it was the officers choice to go there.

If the mother provided consent, does that make it a child abuse charge on her part? Also, we have no clue as to why the child did not want to take a shower so badly. That kind of oppositional behavior is often caused by abuse, so the statement that she wasn't beaten enough when she was 2-9 is not just morally reprehensible, but not even accurate.

[citation][nom]chripuck[/nom]If my son was told to sit still by a cop and instead kicked him in the groin then no, I wouldn't care if they tasered him briefly, especially if for some reason he actually acted that way.[/citation]

Then I can only hope that one day you get to witness that type of behavior first hand. And please don't start whining about your rights as your child lays there in convulsions. You clearly are one of the sheeple that are willing to waive all rights to be treated as filth by the new police state.

I bet you would be willing to "rock the system" then....but sadly enough it will be to late. Maybe your will be one of the lucky ones and your child won't die at the hands of a lunatic cop and his taser. Then again...maybe you won't...but always remember...It's ok and you support this.

I have to say I'm behind the cop on this one, but I feel no sympathy for the mother. She clearly hasn't done her job as a parent. The cop, however, had little choice, as using physical force would have probably caused far more lasting harm than the taser did.

Of course, it would have all been avoided if the 911 operator and police hadn't taken the call seriously...

ridiculous that some of you support the tasering of a 10 year old girl. It was absolutely wrong for the police officer to even consider taking the mother's request to tase her daughter. The mother of this girl is entirely out of touch with reality and shouldn't have called the cops in the first place.

To be honest if that small child kicked me in the balls I would have tazed the hell out of her.
[citation][nom]bill gates is your daddy[/nom]You clearly are one of the sheeple that are willing to waive all rights to be treated as filth by the new police state.[/citation]
Oh. Dear. I bet you're a conspiracy theorist.

[citation][nom]Jon Bon Wonton[/nom]Holy crow- this story starts out crazy and just gets crazier.
1) Woman calls police because her child won't take a shower
2) Police actually take call seriously
3) Mother tells officer to use taser
4) OFFICER TASES AND ARRESTS TEN YEAR OLD GIRL FOR NOT TAKING A SHOWER AND KICKING HIM IN THE JUNK.[/citation]

lol this is ridiculous

1. if i was the mom i'd ahve draged her out side and hosed her off.

2. if i was teh cop that answered the phone I'd ahve laughed my ass off
3. if i were the mother, i'd be looking into getting the kid a shrink not a cop with ataser

4. if i was the cop that went to the house , i would have hog tied the brat

[citation][nom]Zenthar[/nom]In related news, taser now announced their market leading Taser X26 will now be offered in "children edition" .Ok, jokes aside, given the known dangers of tasers, the cop probably should have opted for another solution. I mean his life or even security wasn't even in danger so could simply call the office and ask them what he should do ...As for being able to handle a small child, it's not because you can do it for a grown man that you would instinctively be able to apply it to such a small and frail body. I mean, the title of this article could become "Cop breaks an 10 yr old girl's arm trying to arm-lock her" and people would be as pissed.[/citation]

AMEN to that .. don't think any one here is really thinking much. the cop didnt taser the brat for his sake , he probably did it mroe for her sake. girls and even women can be quite fragile (don't blast me i'm not sexist this is just a biological truth). a 10 year old girl is certainly more fragile than a grown man . had this cop decided to "wrestle" her into submission , I'm sure he would ahve come out fairly unscathed , however i'm not so sure this girls wouldn't ahve had more or one bone broke. and we all know a headline "cop shatters 10 year old girl's arm (or leg)" would have been far worse than "cop tasers a 10 year old girl"

so all you nay sayers can step off your high horse , remove teh chip form your morally high shoulder , and pul that stick out of your ass , the cop made this decision to protect teh girl from possible harm to her self , not because he was worried about himself getting harmed.

Some of the responses to this article are ridiculous. I suppose most of you don't understand the circumstances, or what a Tazer is and is not.

First off, a Tazer is a Less-Lethal tool, not necessarily Non-Lethal. Just like a "Bean-Bag" shot gun like police used (and some still do) before the Tazer came out. Just like everything else in the officer's vehicle and belt, all their items are TOOLS (even their firearm). The likelihood of being killed by a standard Tazer incident are extremely slim. The folks you see on the news whom are seriously hurt or killed after a Tazer is used on them are typically very intoxicated, or on controlled substances (PCP, Meth, Coke, etc).

Because a Tazer is a tool, the officer uses it to potentially alleviate the need for further injury to ALL PARTIES (suspect, officer, and civilians). Obviously this officer is being suspended with pay during this investigation so his/her department can determine if using the Tazer was appropriate BASED ON THE CIRCUMSTANCES. The reality is, through this article none of us really have a clue as to what actually occurred. So we have to give the officer the benefit of the doubt until a full investigation is completed.

I'm sure we all initially feel tazing a 10 year old girl seems over the top. Sad thing is though, there are a lot of 10 year old kids out there who have little to no respect for much at all (let alone police, their parents, or anyone else). Because this girl has likely had no solid discipline in her life she doesn't understand consequences for her actions.

As far as why the police went to the home in the first place. Many agencies now days respond to EVERY call, even if it's something silly like this. Having been a cop before myself, I've actually had to respond to situations where parents simply were paying for their lack of parenting. Having to show up and try to explain to a 16 year old that he has to listen to his mother seems sad, but it happens a lot these days.

What I'm not sure about however, is why the officer will be investigated by the FBI. That seems a little strange to me.

Here are some facts: "The girl's father, Anthony Medlock, told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that his daughter has emotional problems, but that she didn't have a weapon and shouldn't have been Tasered.

"My daughter does not deserve to be tased and be treated like an animal," said Medlock, who is divorced from the girl's mother and does not have custody."

Just from reading the article it was apparent that the girl had emotional problems, and should have been treated accordingly. The chief of police also said: "This is something we have to do. We're required to maintain order and keep the peace." Guess this is a new take on maintaining order in the family.

[citation][nom]icepick314[/nom]a kick in a groin = taser IMOi don't care if you're 10 year old girl...[/citation]

Exactly what I was thinking. Assaulting a police officer!
