must have sound volume at 65-70 just to listen from about 10ft away.
no additional components. satellite to directv box to tv.

what are you adjusting the sound ON? the TV?
Your direct TV box may have a volume adjust that needs to be raised first, before raising the volume on the TV.

Chances are the mainboard needs replacement. Your audio amps are housed on this board. Typically their failure mode is either to have clipping on the low frequencies or to have dramatically reduced output.
