cpu high usage

my 8 year old cpu is showing high usage....any ideas to replace processor....
SPEC:
Intel pentium D 2.80Ghz, 3Gb ram
32 bit windows... compaq presario

Unfortunately, it is time to upgrade to a new system. That platform is way obsolete. Even finding a decent used processor for that will be difficult. New ones haven't been made for years.
