Hello there,

So I basicly bought a laptop with an i3 with socket PGA989 on it.
I also bought an i7 because I didn't want to stick with an i3 but misread the specs a bit.
The socket type on the i7 is PGA988.. Would this be compatible?

CPU i7: http://ark.intel.com/products/71459/Intel-Core-i7-3630QM-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_40-GHz

Thanks a lot.

EDIT: I'm doing this for the laptop ASUS X75A.

Solution
So based on what I see, the i7-3630QM should work. It is the same socket as the i3-3110M. It does take more power, 45W vs 35W and will probably run hotter.

What is the full model number of the laptop?
The linked motherboard is PGA989 and the i3-3310m is PGA988 and the i7-3630Q is also PGA988.
I'll do some more digging after you post the full model number, but if that i3 is in there then the i7 should work as well provided the BIOS supports it.

Hello there,
The model number should be ASUS X75A-TY272H.

Will the power change matter? Like I mean, can my motherboard give 45W to the CPU?
Thanks so far!
