Dell inspiron mini goes black at boot

Hello.
Our Dell Inspiron Mini is booting up. I can see the Windows XP logo, then it goes black. XP continues to boot as I can hear the start up chime and hear certain bubble pop up sounds but I see only a black screen.

Any suggestions? Thank you

What happens when you boot up in Safe Mode?

Just before windows starts press F8 key a few times...than you should be able to select Start up in Safe Mode.
