Dell laptop: boots up but that's it!

My Dell laptop runs on Windows Vista. Suddenly I can boot my laptop up, the log in box appears but I can't type, move arrows or anything. I hope that someone has advice. Thanks!

have to tried with safe mode.. if it work's then do full virus scan(avira antivirus is my choice)
