Desktop wired connection won't work when laptop is turned on

I just got a new laptop and connected it to the internet(Wireless), but it seems when the laptop is using the internet my desktops wired connection barely works at all. Most of the time I do have a connection but it just drops it. Skype calls will drop and games are lagging. Anyone know why when I use my laptop it will make my desktops connection go bad?

anything hogging the bandwidth in your lap like downloads?

No nothing is downloading. For some reason the laptop just crashes my wired connection
