Digital to analog audio conversion: how will I connect the devices?

I have a Samsung 4k Smart Tv and an old Technics SA-EX700 Dolby Surround AV-Receiver and I want to be able to get the sound from the TV to play on the sound system connected to the AV control.

Since the audio output of the TV is digital (Toslink connection) and the input from of the ampliphier is analog I had to buy a digital to analog audio converter.

The converter I bought was this one:

And the connections of the Technics SA-EX700 are these:

The converter has 3 3.5mm phone jack inputs (1 front left/front right, 1 surroud left/surround right and 1 subwoofer/something else that I don't know). This will lead to 5 RCA jacks. And my question is: where do exactly I connect them in my amp? Should I connect both front and surround cables in the VCR input and the subwoofer one in the subwoofer input? Is that the right way to connect it? Where will the sixth cable be connected?

I see no option for a 6 ch direct input with that old Technics.
Only a stereo one, in the IN Section - TV, or Tape, or VDP.

So, does that mean that I should have bought one like this and that I will not be able to use the one that I bought?

You would be able to use the one you bought, but you'd use only the front speakers as output.

The converter you bought only has a 2.1 setting so you would not be able to use it with that receiver. You would get no bass.
Set your TV optical output to PCM stereo and use a stereo DAC.
Or buy an old non-HDMI Dolby Digital receiver with optical input from ebay or Craigslist. They don't go for a lot and will sound much much better.

That actually sounds like a great idea, but would it work with the set of speakers that came with my amp? Are the connectors universal or each brand has it's own?
I have two Technics SB M300 (FR & FL), two Technics SB-CSS200E-K (SR & SL) and one Technics SB C200 (Center).
It may sound like a stupid question, but I am very newbie in all this sound system things.

HTS systems often use oddball or RCA connections for speakers.
Standalone AV receivers and your speakers always works with bare wire at all ends. You want at least 16g speaker wire or larger (lower number is thicker wire). If the wire is too thick you thin the last 1/2" so it fits the speaker terminal
