I now have and use Directivo as my viewing source, and I am wondering if I switch to digital cable, would I still be
able to use my Directivo set as a standalone ?

A lot of my friends have switched over from DirecTV to cable and claim that the feed is much better, and also, when you
sign up for HD Digital Cable, it comes with a box and HD DVR and all the locals are included in HD without an OTA
antenna.

You're thoughts please ..

You can watch previously recorded programs, but without a satellite dish
connection and DirecTV DVR service you cannot record new programming.

If HD Digital Cable service is much better, there is little reason not to switch to cable.

Don't be surprised to find out that NOT ALL local channels will be HD or that only
a few hours of programming each day from the major networks is HD.
