Do A/V Systems Cause Lag?

Hi,
I Want to buy a 5.1 av system for my room on my pc. I would be plugging in the hdmi to from my pc to the system, then the hdmi out to my monitor. I do game on my pc so very little lag is through the system to my monitor is a problem. So do these cause lag? Oh and does HDMI support true 5.1 surround? Thanks!

i've been using a similar setup since 2010 and have never had any issues myself. does it introduce a little lag? perhaps, but i dont feel it or notice it in any way if it does.

yes, hdmi (or dvi to hdmi converters) out of your video card (or onboard generally) supports 5.1 sound. i hook up to my a/v receiver in the same way.

Whether you get lag will depend on whether the av receiver processes the video which will cause a delay. You can sometimes turn off this processing in one of the menus.
